Purpose of the course and expected participation outcomes: This course will support the district’s initiative to integrate technology into the curriculum as well as engage students through the use of innovative applications. Teachers will learn ways to incorporate the use of digital storytelling into their regular instructional delivery as well as strategies for facilitating student projects. As teachers learn how to better design collaborative and engaging projects in which students are actively interacting with content in meaningful and constructive ways, student achievement will increase. Teachers will design and present their own curriculum infused digital stories as well as their plan for implementing student projects in the classroom. Course Description: Learn how to develop digital media that will engage and motivate students while earning three hours of graduate credit. Participants will spend much of their time working hands-on with the software application Windows MovieMaker, to create, edit and showcase stories told with digital media. Guided activities and assignments will target intermediate technology competencies and offer teachers integration ideas for classroom use and student projects. This course supports the C of C School of Education, Health and Human Performance Teaching and Learning Standards through practice with three digital media applications – thus providing hands-on experience, the opportunity to develop confidence in the use of digital media applications, and experience creating instructional content. A computer lab will be available for participants to use when they work individually to plan and design learning experiences. Teachers will use a class wiki to access course resources and to contribute to collective ideas and reflections as well as maintain an online portfolio of major projects. Goals/Standards/Objectives:All goals and objectives correlate to the C of C Teaching and Learning Standards. Overall Course Goals:Upon completion of the course, participants will: design and produce digital artifacts with high instructional value as well as designing engaging student centered projects using software applications. (EHHP I, II, III) Performance Objectives:
Participants will demonstrate the ability to create a movie file with MovieMaker. (EHHP II, III, V)
Participants will demonstrate the ability to create curriculum-based digital media using software applications. (EHHP II, III, V)
